The Florida Small Business Development Center Network (FSBDC Network) is proud to celebrate Women's Small Business Month this October. Women-owned small businesses are invaluable to our nation's economy. There are an estimated 8.3 million women-owned businesses in the United States, responsible for generating nearly $1.3 trillion in revenue and employing over 7.7 million people.

Nationally, women-owned small businesses have seen an increase of 54 percent since 1997. The state of Florida is ranked 4th among the top 10 states with the greatest number of women-owned businesses. Florida has seen a growth increase of 73.9 percent in the number of women small businesses in the last 15 years, ranking it as the 6th fastest growing state for women-owned businesses.

Florida has an estimated 587,600 women-owned firms, employing 473,100 and attributing roughly $77.6 billion in revenue according to the State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, by American Express OPEN, a comprehensive study analyzing data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

In an effort to help women entrepreneurs succeed, the FSBDC Network has provided innovative management and technical assistance for more than three decades. Since 1989, the FSBDC Network has served 69,328 women, 43,395 of which were designated women-owned small businesses, resulting in 38,797 jobs created and saved; $896.6 million in revenue growth; $537.6 million in capital accessed; and $920.5 million in government contracts awarded.
